In the years that followed losing their family, Clementine and her siblings moved from house to house with surviving relatives, until they were able to find a place in a remote area of the district. Clementine married shortly after, but soon found herself in a position of not being able to afford rent in her remote house of Bugesera. Her husband, who was employed in the military, had passed away on duty.
But as a survivor of the genocide, Clementine was given the house she now lives in by the government. This came as a big relief for her, who is grateful she no longer has to pay rent, and that her children are now growing up and able to help her financially.
