Growing up here in Bugesera, I have always known the region to have irregular and unpredictable rainfall - a challenge for residents in the region. Fortunately for me, our home has a tanking system that harvests rain water and during drought my parents can afford to but water for storage in the tank.
The same cannot be said for many residents of Bugesera. Many residents who previously relied on farming have opted to move to the city in search of alternative sources of income and the government provided communal water points have slowly become strained of water particularly in Murama cell.
