Peter and Esperance stand outside their new home in Kivube village, Rulindo. March 9th, 2024
Add to CartAmong those who lost their homes on the day of the landslide, three families were able to build new homes on their land. But Peter and Esperance's family and two others did not have enough safe land to rebuild their homes. Added to that, the family also lost three of their cows in the landslide, and were compelled to sell the remaining two for income thereafter. After a month of staying with their neighbours, they finally received housing through a government housing initiative somewhere else. This means they had to leave, though they remained owners of their land now rendered inhabitable.
