Natalia's world, the Spanish railway industry, is still predominantly male. Women's entry into positions like hers remains relatively recent, and until the 1980s, there were no female train drivers at all in Spanish railways. When the industry developed at the turn of the 20th century, women initially got jobs in the sector as secretaries, cleaners or ticket sellers, and this continued on for decades.
