The aftermath of the landslide was a scary ordeal for Francoise who is married to Hategekimana’s second son Aphrodis. She and Aphrodis were made aware of it minutes before it happened, and watched in horror as their house collapsed, young children in hand. After the landslide life felt very uncertain for the family Francoise was ready to leave the area but Hategekimana convinced her otherwise and her young family stayed intact. Today, the two women share a bond so strong that one would assume they are biologically related.
