On the night of May 23, 2023, 63-year-old Generosa Hategekimana was abruptly awakened by an unsettling call for distress as one of her daughters realised that their house was succumbing to a landslide. She, her two daughters, her two eldest sons and their families stood away in safety as they waited and watched the inevitable fate of their houses crumble.
